London Historic Pub Tour
We visit up to six traditional London pubs from the selection below. Should you have preferences, please inform your guide.
The Admiralty – Trafalgar Square
A Grade II listed building inspired by HMS Victory, Admiral Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. Considered London’s most centrally located pub.
The Anchor – Borough Market
Rebuilt in 1676 following the Great Fire of London, this historic riverside tavern was famously observed by Samuel Pepys during the fire. The only London pub with its own in-house fish and chip shop.
The George – Borough High Street
London’s last remaining galleried coaching inn, dating from the 17th century and owned by the National Trust. Mentioned in Charles Dickens’ Little Dorrit, it features a cobbled courtyard and multiple bars.
The Mayflower – Rotherhithe
Named after the ship that sailed to America in 1620, whose captain lived nearby. The only UK pub licensed to sell American postage stamps. Descendants of Mayflower passengers sign the pub’s historic guestbook.
Town of Ramsgate – Wapping
Claimed to be the oldest riverside pub on the Thames, with origins dating back to the 1460s. Notably associated with the capture of Judge Jeffreys in 1688.
The Ship & Shovel – Embankment
Dating from the 1730s, this distinctive pub occupies both sides of Craven Passage — truly a “pub of two halves.”
The Two Chairmen – Westminster
Named after the sedan-chair carriers who once waited here following performances at the nearby Royal Cockpit Theatre.
The Sanctuary – Westminster
A historic 19th-century public house located on Tothill Street, retaining its period character.
The Grenadier – Belgravia
Built in 1720 as the officers’ mess for the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards and opened to the public in 1818. Famous for the legend of a ghostly soldier, with banknotes pinned to the ceiling by patrons from around the world.
The Star – Belgravia
Notorious in the 1960s as a meeting place for high society and criminal figures. Allegedly linked to the planning of the 1963 Great Train Robbery.
The Churchill Arms – Kensington
One of London’s most visually striking pubs, renowned for its vibrant floral displays and elaborate seasonal decorations.
The Shipwrights Arms
A Grade II listed riverside pub dating from 1884, traditionally frequented by dock workers.
